2017 Ford Escape Power Seat Not Working
If a power seat in a 2017 Ford Escape stops moving, the pattern matters. A seat that is completely dead points in a different direction from one that still reclines and moves up or down but will not slide forward or backward.
Start with exactly what the seat still does
What happened with Alice
Our real-owner experience: on Alice, our 2017 Escape SE, the driver's power seat stopped moving forward and backward even though the other seat movements still worked. The seat-control switch turned out to be the useful clue. After the switch contacts were cleaned with electrical contact cleaner, the fore-aft movement came back.
That contact-cleaning treatment was needed a few more times over roughly the next month, but the seat has now been working normally for more than a year. In our case, addressing the switch contacts avoided replacing the entire switch assembly.
That is one owner's experience, not proof that every fore-aft seat failure is a dirty switch. If the seat is completely dead, a fuse is open, wiring is damaged, the motor/track is binding, or restraint-related wiring is involved, the cause can be different.
Why a partial seat failure is useful information
If several seat directions still work, the seat is clearly receiving at least some power. That makes a single main seat fuse less convincing as the explanation. A technician can then concentrate on the switch request, wiring and the individual motor or drive function that has stopped responding.
Before assuming an electrical failure, also look for something physically blocking the seat track. Coins, small objects and floor-mat edges can create symptoms that feel electrical even when the control still works.

If the seat is completely dead
Compare the failed seat with the other front seat and other nearby accessories. If one seat is completely unavailable while the other works normally, the seat-specific fuse and circuit become more useful clues. Memory-seat problems are a different branch
Some 2017 Escapes have a driver-seat memory function. If normal manual seat movement works but saved positions do not recall correctly, the symptom belongs more to the memory/control side than to a completely failed power seat. Ford provides separate memory-seat controls and also lists the F10 memory-module logic feed.
When I would stop at diagnosis
- The seat is stuck in a position that affects safe pedal or steering-wheel reach.
- The seat moves unexpectedly or will not stop when the control is released.
- There is visible wiring damage, heat damage or a repeated fuse failure.
- A seat or restraint warning appears at the same time.
- The track is mechanically jammed or the seat frame is damaged.
Front seats can contain occupant-sensing and restraint-system wiring. I would not treat unknown connectors under the seat as casual electrical-test points.
