2017 Ford Escape Serpentine Belt Diagram & Drive Belt Routing
Owners often call every visible engine belt a serpentine belt, but Ford's 2017 Escape information uses the broader term drive belt. The exact routing depends on whether the Escape has the 1.5L EcoBoost, 2.0L EcoBoost or 2.5L engine. That matters because the belt layout is not identical across all three engines.

That also reduces the chance of an old or mislabeled diagram being passed around without context.

Ford's accessory-drive-belt maintenance interval
Ford's normal 2017 Escape maintenance schedule is useful here because it gives a clear inspection and replacement point:
Serpentine belt versus timing belt on the 1.5L EcoBoost
This is an important distinction. The visible accessory or drive belt runs external accessories. The timing belt is a different engine component with a different job. Ford lists both accessory-drive-belt replacement and timing-belt replacement at 150,000 miles (240,000 km) in the normal schedule for the 1.5L engine.
That does not mean one belt substitutes for the other. If a shop quote simply says "belt," ask which belt is being discussed and why.
Signs a drive belt deserves inspection
A noise from the belt side of the engine is not proof that the belt itself is bad. Belt tension, pulley bearings, an accessory or contamination can all change the sound. Still, these are reasonable reasons to have the accessory drive inspected:
- Visible cracking, fraying or missing belt material.
- A repeating squeal, chirp or slapping noise from the belt area.
- A belt that appears to wander instead of tracking normally on the pulleys.
- Charging or A/C symptoms that appear at the same time as belt noise.
- Unknown maintenance history on a higher-mileage Escape.
What can sound like a bad serpentine belt?
The belt is only one part of the accessory-drive system. A tensioner, idler, alternator, A/C compressor pulley or another driven component can create noise. That is why replacing a belt based on sound alone can miss the actual cause.

Buying the correct belt
I would identify the engine first and then verify the belt by VIN or a reputable fitment catalog. The three 2017 Escape engines do not share one universal routing arrangement, and the presence of multiple belt positions on some engines makes a generic "2017 Escape serpentine belt" listing too vague.
