2017 Ford Escape 12V Power Outlet Not Working
If a phone charger, dash camera or other 12-volt accessory suddenly stops working in a 2017 Ford Escape, first determine whether one outlet is dead or every outlet is dead. Ford used several separate power-point circuits, so a failure at one socket does not automatically mean the whole vehicle has an electrical problem.
First check whether the outlet needs the ignition on
Ford's 2017 owner information says the 12V sockets are intended for 12-volt appliances and notes that if power is unavailable after the ignition is switched off, switch the ignition on. That simple check is worth doing before pulling fuse-panel covers apart.
Ford also rates the 12V DC power point system at up to 180 watts. Accessories that overload the circuit can cause a fuse to open.

The exact outlet arrangement depends on equipment. Ford says 12V power points may be located at the front of the center console, inside the center console, at the rear of the center console or in the luggage area. Match the dead socket to your actual vehicle and fuse chart rather than assuming the first 20A fuse you see is the right one.
One outlet is dead but the others work
When only one socket is dead, I would focus on that outlet's circuit before suspecting the battery or charging system. Useful possibilities include:
- The fuse for that outlet has opened.
- The accessory plug is not making good contact in the socket.
- The outlet itself is damaged or contaminated.
- A connector or wiring problem is affecting that individual socket.
- The device or charger has failed rather than the Escape.
A quick comparison with another known-good low-power 12V accessory can help separate a socket problem from an accessory problem without dismantling anything.
Every 12V outlet is dead
If several outlets stop working at once, the pattern matters. Multiple blown fuses, other electrical problems, a recent battery event or evidence of overheated wiring deserves a broader look than simply installing fuse after fuse.

Do not replace a fuse with a higher rating
The fuse is protecting the wiring and outlet. If a correct replacement fuse opens again, that is useful evidence of an unresolved problem. Installing a larger fuse to keep the outlet alive removes part of that protection and can allow wiring damage or overheating.
Why a charger can cause confusion
USB adapters, phone chargers and inexpensive 12V accessories can fail internally. A dead charger can make a healthy outlet look broken, while a damaged accessory can also contribute to a blown fuse.

12V outlet vs USB/SYNC problem

What about the 110V AC outlet?
Some Escapes can have a 110V AC power point. Ford's manual treats that as a separate system with its own converter and load limit. A 110V outlet problem should not be diagnosed as though it were one of the ordinary 12V sockets.
When I would stop troubleshooting
- A replacement fuse opens again immediately.
- The socket or plug becomes unusually hot.
- You smell hot plastic or see melted material.
- The outlet is loose or visibly damaged.
- Several electrical systems have failed together.
Those symptoms are more useful than repeatedly replacing fuses. The goal is to find why the circuit is failing, not simply keep restoring power.
